Funny Flower

I said funny flower, but maybe it's funny flowers -- these baby's breath got tangled under the nasturtium flower.... Things have been pretty busy lately at least as far as work and other things go. Today is a nice Saturday...a little cooler than it has been. If the wind ever dies down down it will be perfect.

I can't summarize all the things going on in the garden since last time, so I will just do a walk through of what the highlights are now...

These rose-mallow flowers have started to bloom. They are so pretty and have an interesting star in the spaces at the base of the petals.

Not quite so showy, the potatoes have flowers...I suppose that must be a good thing.

I just love this clump of asiatic lilies...it is so tall, I almost think I should move it further back in the bed when fall comes (to allow some shorter plants a better display). However, it is doing so well I hesitate to change the conditions.

Here's a close-up of one of the blooms.

A shot of the purple-blue flowers in a barrel...I have procrastinated looking them up in a book still. (Update: Okay I think it's a purple tansy.)

Other developments...the Black-eyed Susans have started to flower.

I like your new nasturtium hybrid, quite unusual for a double flowering version. Your lilies are so covered in blooms, and what a pretty colour.
Sometimes I'm reluctant to move a flourishing plant too. Just recently I moved a 4 foot fern. I've been meaning to move it out from the fence for a couple of years, and changing the bed around it gave a reason to do it now, even though it's not the ideal time. It stormed afterwards and now it's at a 30 degree angle. I hope it puts out some stablizing roots.

Love the first photograph....nature can be so amusing.....it certainly is a funny flower.

The lilies are lovely, gorgeous colour.....I would not move them personally they look so healthy and happy....

I actually love the potato bloom, but I am a strange lady....

I love all your blooms including the potato bloom. I think it is an interesting flower, I've never seen a potato bloom. I wonder what that blue flower is too. You will have to let us know. Great post and pics as usual.

Norther Shade: Really sometimes "now" is the best time otherwise it never happens...Although we do try for ideal times. I do like that lily and was quite happy to see so many blooms!

Cheryl: With my sprawling beds, I give nature plenty of chances to play...actually it usually works out pretty good with some occasional aid. I will probably not move the lilies, but I might move some other plants in the fall.

I just did some searching and it turns out that potato blooms can be quite lovely ... there's even stories about Marie Antoinette putting them in her hair.

Perennial Gardener: Thanks! I finally did the research and I think that the purple flower is a "purple tansy". I had suspected that it was a tansy, but never had one in the garden before.

You have some beautiful blooms in your yard Chris! I especially like the Asiatic lilies and their intense pink color.

Thanks, Chey...that is a nice pink color. I think this is the second year for that plant -- it sure grew up!
